SCP Secures Partners For 2010 World Cup Qualifiers

Gol TV, Dish Among Affiliates for South American Tournament

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 9/20/2007 6:01:00 AM

SCP Worldwide has netted cable, pay-per-view, Internet TV and closed-circuit distribution pacts for upcoming 2010 South American World Cup qualifying matches.

The New York-based sports, media and entertainment company said it has reached agreements with soccer-centric Gol TV on the cable side, EchoStar Communications Corp.’s Dish Network for PPV, JumpTV on the Internet and Integrated Sports Media for commercial establishments.

Terms of the agreements, which cover the first 20 games involving 10 South American national teams over four rounds in October and November, were not disclosed. SCP, whose leadership ranks include former Madison Square Garden executives Dave Checketts and Chris Bevilacqua, has the rights to all 90 matches of the qualifying tournament, which features international soccer powers Brazil and Argentina.

Dish is offering the 16-game PPV package for $159.99, four-game packages over a two-day period for $59.99, or individual games for $29.99.

GolTV, which is serving as SCP Worldwide’s marketing, sales and distribution partner for the tournament, will air a total of four games -- one per round. The network, which offers games in both Spanish- and English-language fees, will produce and broadcast the tournament’s official nightly highlight show.

JumpTV will offer all 20 games from the October/November rounds live via PPV on www.jumptv.com, while Integrated Sports Media is responsible for the commercial distribution of a 16-game package through its network of over 2,000 outlets.

SCP officials said they are also in active discussions with various mobile carriers about live game and highlights distribution and various sponsorship packages, including camera-visible, field-board signage opportunities.

“Soccer has seen unprecedented ratings success this summer with some of the international games and tournaments that have been played,” said SCP chairman Checketts in a statement. “As evidenced by our multiple distribution agreements with these premiere media partners this is a valuable property with high demand.”
