Spike TV (www.spiketv.com) Tuesday dubbed veteran executive Kevin Kay “king of all men.”
Kay, Spike TV’s general manager and executive vice president, was named president of the male-targeted network, according to Doug Herzog, president of MTVN Entertainment Group, to whom Kay will report.
In his new role, Kay will oversee all original series development for the 96 million-subscriber network, as well as continue oversight of specials and sports programming production, marketing, corporate communications, research, on-air promotions, online and production departments.
Kay is responsible for the network’s development of such successful original series as the Ultimate Fighter combat sports reality series and the TNA iMPACT pro wrestling show, as well as the network’s scripted series The Kill Point.
“Kevin has demonstrated incredible leadership, vision, and creativity in the evolution of Spike TV into the vibrant entertainment destination for men it is today,” said Herzog in a statement. “His numerous successes thus far, including igniting the UFC-phenomenon by launching The Ultimate Fighter, are a testament to his foresight in creating brand-defining hit programming for guys.”
The move comes one month after Herzog promoted former Comedy Central general manager Michele Ganeless to president of the 95 million subscriber network and 10 months after Herzog left the president positions at both networks to head up the then newly created MTVN Entertainment Group.
