To promote Sci Fi Channel’s upcoming series Tin Man, the channel recruited computer-generated art creators who designed an immersive online experience that riffs off the storylines and settings but transports viewers into an imagined
“Outer Zone” (O.Z.).
The site, road2oz.com, is a flash-enabled digital environment that uses ZoomQuilt technology to let users “dive” into the zone, starting out on the fringes of a prairie tornado slash wormhole.
Sci Fi worked with Fallon Worldwide on the site, produced by B-Reel. Users can either watch the 10-minute Myst-like presentation -- a loop that blends original visions with scenes from the miniseries -- or explore Tin Man settings shown with video, photos and written materials.
The three-part original miniseries starts on Dec. 2, 9-11 p.m. ET/PT. It’s a re-imagining of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, starring Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Neal McDonough, Kathleen Robertson, Raoul Trujillo and Richard Dreyfuss.
