Missouri Forms Technology Task Force

Governor Matt Blunt Wants to Improve Broadband Penetration in Rural Areas

By Linda Haugsted -- Multichannel News, 10/11/2007 5:10:00 AM

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt created a task force to identify ways to increase access to technology in his state, especially to rural areas.

The task force will have six months to assess the current level of high-speed data access available throughout the state, identify barriers to greater deployment and look at best practices in other states. The task force will be chaired by Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder.

“Expanding access to high-speed Internet in Missouri's rural communities is an important step for economic development, agriculture and education,” Blunt said, announcing the task force's formation at a telecommunication symposium. The governor added he wants current technology delivered to the doorstep of every Missourian, as soon as possible.

The 16-member task force will include representatives from the state government, the state chamber of commerce, education, small business representatives, telephone and cable industries. The panel is to submit a report by Feb. 1, 2008.
