Lifetime, Starz Media Ink Co-Production Pact

Partnership Will Yields Trio Of Telefilms Slated To Premiere In 2008

Lifetime Networks and Starz Media have inked a co-production pact for a trio of telefilms that will air on the women’s targeted-programmer next year.

The deal covers True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet, starring Jojo and Valerie Bertinelli; Queen Sized, with Nikki Blonsky; and Wisegal, featuring Alyssa Milano and Jason Gedrick.

The agreement marks Lifetime’s second major international co-production, following the April announcement of its partnership with French broadcaster TF-I International for three original movies for worldwide releases.

For Starz Media, which also works with ABC, Sci Fi Channel, Cartoon Network, BET and Starz Entertainment on other original projects, the pact continues its push into telefilm production.Starz Media will handle worldwide distribution of the three films, including home entertainment via its Anchor Bay Entertainment unit.

Queen Sized, scheduled to premiere Jan. 5, is a drama based on a true story in which an overweight teen becomes her school’s homecoming queen.

In the comedy True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet, a superstar teen actress moves to Indiana to avoid the press, while Wisegal, based on the true story, centers on a widower supporting her two sons through illegal means who then puts her progeny in jeopardy when she becomes romantically involved with a mobster.

“This is a truly innovative deal that has tremendous value for Lifetime and Starz. We hope to be making more deals like this in the future,” said Lifetime Networks Entertainment president Susanne Daniels in a statement.

“We are committed to partnering with major television networks to produce and distribute audience-pleasing programming, and this new deal with Lifetime is certainly an outstanding example of that,” Kent Rice, president and COO of Starz Media, in a statement.
