CST Celebrates Fifth With Sixth

Cox Regional Sports Net Will Enter Georgia Before It Turns Five Later This Month

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 10/12/2007 9:45:00 AM

Later this month, Cox Sports Television will celebrate its fifth anniversary by airing in its sixth state.

On Oct. 22, CST, the exclusive regional sports network home of the New Orleans Hornets, New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers, New Orleans VooDoo, Southern Jaguars and New Orleans Zephyrs, will launch on the Cox Communications system in Macon, Ga. With the addition of 80,000 subscribers in that market, the RSN, which bowed Oct. 28, 2002 in front of 450,000 Louisiana viewers, will cross into its sixth state and approach nearly 2 million customers, according to network officials.

Initially constructed as a Louisiana sports network, CST, part of Cox Communications Louisiana LLC, has secured collegiate, professional and high school events that have expanded its reach throughout the south.

Televising over 350 events annually, CST, which also has distribution pacts with Comcast, Suddenlink and a number of smaller cable operators, is currently available in Texas, Arkansas, Florida and  Virginia, as well as its home state.

“As sports fans and advertisers increased the demand for a network like CST, we answered their call and built the network into one of the largest regional sports networks in the South,” said Greg Bicket, Vice President and Region Manager, Cox New Orleans. “Over the past five years we have grown our subscriber numbers by focusing on the underserved sports fan base and providing them with world-class sports entertainment, including the New Orleans Hornets, New Orleans Saints, LSU, high school athletics, Louisiana hunting and fishing among other top-notch sporting events throughout the South.”
