Disney Dominates Friday Night
‘Twitches’ Telepic, ‘Wizards’ Series Debuts Lead The Way

Lifted by its 70th original telepic and the debut of a new live-action series, Disney Channel's Oct. 12 lineup of magic-themed movies and original series certainly cast a spell on kids and tween viewers, powering its way to the top of the cable rating heap last Friday night.
The premiere of original film Twitches Too and the series debut of Wizards of Waverly Place produced an average of 5.5 million viewers in prime, according to Nielsen Media Research data, more than double runner-up TBS’s 2.6 million primetime average on Oct. 12.
More specifically, the movie pulled in some 7 million total viewers between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., while the series premiere attracted 5.9 million viewers. For the week of Oct. 8-14, the programs ranked third and fourth, respectively, trailing only these Oct. 8 entries: ESPN’s Monday Night Football game featuring the Dallas Cowvboys and Buffalo Bills and TBS’s coverage of the fourth game of the American League Division Series in which the Cleveland Indians eliminated the New York Yankees.
Among its target audiences, Twitches Too was first for the day with an 8.6 rating among kids 6 to 11 (2.1 million of those viewers) and an 8.3 rating among tweens 9 to 14 (2 million). As for Wizards of Waverly Place, which follows a family of sorcerers, it pulled a 9.8 rating and 2.4 million kids 6 to 11 and a 10 rating and 2.4 million tweens in its premiere window from 9:30-10 p.m. that night.
The Twitches sequel, starring Tia and Tamera Mowry as young witches once again tapped to protect their home kingdom from evil forces, matched the 7 million viewers of its October 2005 predecessor.
