E! Entertainment enticed 1 million viewers to park their fannies in front of the TV Sunday night to watch its new reality series.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians made its seven-figure debut Oct. 14 at 10:30 p.m., averaging a 0.84 household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
That performance made the show, which tails Kim Kardashian, daughter of famed O.J. Simpson lawyer, the late Robert Kardashian, and her family, including mother Kris, four sisters, a brother and stepfather Bruce Jenner, the former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete, the highest series premiere on the network since The Girls Next Door, debuted to a 0.91 mark on Aug. 7, 2005, according to network officials.
The episode, entitled “I’m Watching You,” played particularly big among women 18 to 34, generating a 1.44 rating with that group, the tops in ad-supported cable in aforementioned time period that night, said network officials.
Among adults 18 to 49, the premiere scored a 0.61 average, up 15% when gauged against the net’s prior four-week average with the demo.
Replete with an image of Kim, shaking her backside, the show is touted on the Comcast Corp.-owned network’s Web site with copy reading “The Best Booty on Hollywood is only on E!” The cast bio for Kim on the site describes her as “a model, businesswoman, spoiled socialite and big sis. And with the hottest junk-in-the-trunk since J.Lo, she's in demand by Playboy, the Pussycat Dolls and the paparazzi. Oh, and that sex tape? Whatever. This savvy player always comes out ahead, on the fast track to fame and fortune."
The site also is housing a “Best Booty” contest, asking “Is Kim the titan of T-town tushes?” Among the other contenders: Jessica Biel, Eva Longoria, Cameron Diaz and Kimora Lee Simmons.
Simmons show, Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane, which debuts on sister service, Style, provided a lead-in for the Kardashian debut Sunday night, with the new program growing 28% from the last quarter hour of its predecessor.
