Akimbo

Neil Goldberg has been named chief operating officer of San Mateo, Calif.-based video-on-demand content provider Akimbo Systems. He comes from On Demand Media Group, where he was president.

Also, Peter Chantel has joined Akimbo as chief financial officer. He served in the same role at Sony Signatures Network.

AOL

AOL has named Tariq Muhammad executive director of its AOL Black Voices Web site. He comes from Black Enterprise magazine, where he was director, interactive media for BlackEnterprise.com.

AvatarLabs

Tarzana, Calif.-based motion graphics and online design studio AvatarLabs has hired James Safechuck as a Flash developer.

Bright House

S. Brinkley Ruffin has joined Bright House Networks in Indianapolis as a human-resources generalist, responsible for the cable operator’s Avon, Carmel and Marion, Ind., offices. He comes from the Georgia Department of Labor, Atlanta, where he was an employment and training consultant.

Cox

Cox Communications has named Laura Poffenberger director, data product management, based in the multiple-system operator’s Atlanta headquarters. She had been director, product development.

Discovery

Bart Palmer has been named senior vice president, media engineering at Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Md. He comes from Media-Comm/The Inspiration Networks in Charlotte, N.C., where he was senior VP of engineering, chief technical officer.

ESPN

ESPN has promoted Eric Johnson to executive vice president, multimedia sales, ESPN Customer Marketing and Sales. He had been senior VP.

Fuse

Andy Meyer was elevated to vice president development and original series at music network Fuse.

Also, Fuse has promoted Nicole De Fusco to director, original programming, from manager; and Erica Palumbo has joined the network’s original programming department as manager.

Intelsat

Commercial satellite services provider Intelsat has named Edward Berger to lead its business-development organization.

Also, Veronica Pastor will move from Intelsat’s legal department to join Berger’s team as director, business development, Europe and the Middle East.

Stephen Tom will join Intelsat’s business-development group as director, business development, Asia-Pacific and Africa. He is the former executive director of the Pacific Telecommunications Council.

And Mary Ann Brazell and Guy Cheney will continue in their respective roles heading business development in the Americas and Asia-Pacific region.

Lifetime

Lifetime Networks has added Mike Greco as executive vice president, research, replacing the retiring Tim Brooks. He comes from MTV Networks, where he was senior VP, research.

MusicBox

Carlsbad, Calif.-based music production company MusicBox has named Andrew Robbins director, film and TV music. He comes from Megatrax, where he was also director, film and TV music.

NBC Universal

NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has named Dirk W. Johnston vice president, Southwest sales, based in Dallas-Fort Worth. He had been a principal at CapCities Group, working with companies on strategic and tactical marketing and sales.

Also, NBCU elevated two members of its TV Networks Distribution national accounts team: Lee Crain to senior vice president, national accounts, from VP; and Heidi Newman to senior vice president, national accounts, from VP.

NFL Network

Dena Kaplan has joined NFL Network as senior vice president of marketing. She was senior VP, marketing at GSN.

Sí TV

Sí TV named Lisa Delligatti its senior vice president of affiliate sales and Jody Roseas executive director for East Division affiliate sales. Delligatti comes to Sí TV from Discovery Networks U.S., where she was senior VP of affiliate sales and marketing. Rose comes from Scripps Networks in New York, where she served as account director.

Sportsman

The Sportsman Channel has elevated Adam King to manager, affiliate relations, Western region. Also, Lisa Swan was promoted to manager, affiliate relations, Eastern region. And the outdoor-sports programmer has advanced Kimberly Hawkins to senior coordinator, affiliate relations.

Turner

Stacey Lynn Schulman was named senior vice president, Turner Entertainment Ad Sales Research. She comes from The Interpublic Group of Cos., where she was president of the advertising conglomerate’s Consumer Experience Practice.

Weather

The Weather Channel has named Greg Heanue vice president, ad sales and consumer marketing. He comes from BBC America, New York, where he was VP, marketing.
