TLC tapped Grammy Award-winning producer Anthony Eaton and Emmy Award-winning director Bruce Gowers to produce its live Jan. 26 Miss America Live pageant telecast.
Eaton, who heads up Tall Pony Productions, has produced such major network specials like Fashion Rocks, Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope, and The 6th Annual Radio Music Awards.
Gowers, best known for directing Fox’s American Idol has also directed such shows as So You Think You Can Dance and Celebrity Duets.
The two will head up production for TLC’s first Miss America pageant telecast. The Discovery Networks-owned channel this past August acquired distribution rights to the 86-year old pageant through 2010, beginning with the Jan. 26 event in Las Vegas. The network will also produce a reality series leading up to the Miss America finals.
Said Brant Pinvidic, senior vice president of programming for TLC in a statement: “We are thrilled to have two of the best talents in the business working on this landmark television special. They share our creative vision for reinventing this American classic and combining their innovative styles will yield an incredible live event.”

Miss Connecticut said in her introduction that she was from the hometown of Mark Twain and that he said if you did not like the weather, wait a minute. That is Missouri not Connecticut. You'd think the girl you had up there would have been smart enough to know this was not correct. Mark Twain was born in Missouri and it is Missouri's weather that is 60 one day and 30 the next.

You did a great thing this year. My daughter really loved the reality show and it's the type of thing that should have been done a long time ago. The contestants were more real and what you did to help them show more of themselves - the human side, and the makeovers were the best to make this competition more relevant and interesting for young women. Thanks for removing the plasticity. The way the pageant was conducted was excellent. I could not find a feedback section under the pageant org,but pls provide the input if you can. I guess Miss NC didn't really get the help you provided, but loved the transformation of Miss Indiana and Washington. Great job, guys! Do more!! (Get with the younger girls pageants as well. Help transform the way our young women view themselves and others.)
