Gospel Music Channel will honor the most-popular music videos across all genres of gospel and Christian music with a year-end awards show.
The Gospel Music Channel Video Awards will salute the top videos in six genre categories: rock, country, soul, hip-hop, contemporary and Latino, as well as the overall top video of the year.
The first-ever Gospel Music Channel Video Awards winners will be announced on-air in a special Hot List: Viewers’ Choice 2007 on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. (ET). The special edition of the network’s video countdown series will kickoff GMC’s Best of 2007 Video Marathon -- 83 hours of the top videos running through Jan. 2.
GMCVA winners will be determined by viewers and fans through online voting at www.gospelmusicchannel.com, where users will choose from six nominees in each category (three in the Latin group) determined by the amount of airplay the videos received on Gospel Music Channel during 2007. The voting period begins Oct. 30 and continues through Dec. 2.
Among the 33 inaugural nominations are videos by Rodney Atkins, Johnny Cash, Fred Hammond, Jars of Clay, Danielle Peck, Mary Mary, Martina McBride, Shirley Murdock, Krystal Meyers, Chris Tomlin, Rascal Flatts, Relient K, Robert Randolph, Skillet, Michael W. Smith, Switchfoot and Melvin Williams.
“We believe the GMCVAs will become a much-anticipated annual event, with enthusiastic participation by artists and viewers alike,” said Gospel Music Channel founder and president Charles Humbard in a statement.
