AT&T said that U-verse TV is now available to 300,000 living units in Southeast Michigan, and the telco is touting its carriage of Big Ten Network as part of marketing the service in the region against incumbent cable provider Comcast.
AT&T, which launched U-verse in the Detroit area in May, now offers the service as far south as Wyandotte, Mich., and as far north as Lake Orion.
“Now more potential customers in Detroit can enjoy AT&T U-verse, and we’ll continue to expand our availability so consumers have access to a new and exciting television choice with the content they want, including channels like the Big Ten Network,” AT&T vice president and general manager for Michigan Jennifer Jones said in a statement.
Comcast is among several cable operators that have declined to carry the Big Ten Network, which among other programming is set to air some live basketball games of University of Michigan and Michigan State.
AT&T said its expansion of U-verse in Michigan was possible underlegislation signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm in December 2006 that simplifies cable franchising in the state.
