The Documentary Channel, NYC-TV and Netflix will be carrying the Gotham Awards this year, potentially reaching more then 20 million viewers, officials said Wednesday.
IFP, the nation's largest membership organization of independent filmmakers, produces the Gotham Awards and has struck a deal with the three distributors. This year's awards will take place at a star-studded ceremony at Brooklyn's Steiner Studios Nov. 27.
In addition to airing in New York City for the third year in a row on NYC-TV, the Gotham Awards, which in the past have aired on IFC, will now also be distributed online by Netflix and via satellite by Documentary Channel, which will air the ceremony nationwide to its 13 million Dish Networks subscribers Dec. 8.
In a new three-year partnership with movie-rental giant Netflix, IFP will produce an exclusive documentary showcasing highlights from the 17th Annual Gotham Awards and interviews and profiles of this year's nominees. The documentary will be available to more than 7 million Netflix subscribers to watch immediately beginning Dec. 10.
Returning for the third year as a local broadcast partner is NYC-TV, which will air a two-hour edited version of the Gotham Awards beginning Dec. 4.
