Picketers were busy on the West Coast on the first day of the strike by the Writer’s Guild, with strikers appearing at 14 studio locations, including Sunset-Gower Studios, where one striker was felled by a car entering the studio’s garage.
Police were interviewing the writer, who was hospitalized with an injury to his lower leg, according to press reports.
In addition to strikers parading in front of studios, picketers also sought out shows that were still in production on location. One such picket line sprung up at the suburban location for the CBS series Cane.
Another CBS show, The New Adventures of Old Christine, shut down production upon news of the strike, with its star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, joining writers on the picket line.
In Burbank, Jay Leno, whose live The Tonight Show is idled by the strike, appeared at NBC’s studios there to serve doughnuts to the strikers.
