FiOS TV Hits Pittsburgh Burbs

Verizon Starts Marketing Service to 60,000 Households in Southwestern Pennsylvania

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 11/8/2007 3:15:00 AM

Verizon announced the launch of FiOS TV in the greater Pittsburgh area – where it will knock elbows with Comcast – offering the service to more than 60,000 households in parts of 14 communities in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The telco is offering triple- and quadruple-play bundles, including FiOS Internet, unlimited voice calling and Verizon Wireless plans on a single bill. Verizon said it expects to expand FiOS TV availability to “dozens” more communities in the area over the coming months.

The FiOS TV Premier package provides 200 channels for $42.99 per month, and includes access to a library of 10,000 video-on-demand titles, 60% of which are free. Verizon is also offering its new interactive media guide to subscribers in the Pittsburgh area.

Verizon currently offers “more than 20 high-definition channels,” and recently announced plans to kick up the HD lineup to 150 channels by the end of 2008.

The southwestern Pennsylvania communities where FiOS TV is available as of  Nov. 8 are: Bethel Park, Franklin Park, Hampton, Indiana Township, McCandless, Mt. Lebanon, O'Hara, Ohio Township, Peters, Ross, Sewickley, Shaler, Upper St. Clair and West View.
