'Dexter' Slashes Ratings Mark

Episode Establishes Pair Of Showtime Series Records

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 11/21/2007 3:22:00 AM

The eighth episode of Showtime’s serial murderer series Dexter killed with Nielsen households last Sunday.

The initial airing of the Nov. 18 installment at 9 p.m. attracted 1.23 million viewers, the most ever for a Showtime series, according to Nielsen Media Research data, topping the 2004’s Soul Food debut, which averaged 1.2 million watchers.

Paired with the 11 p.m. run that night, the Dexter episode’s cume audience for the evening totaled 1.63 million, its most for a series, dethroning the April 1 crowning of The Tudors

Dexter also worked well as a lead-in for Brotherhood, which also posted a series best audience of 651,000 at 10 p.m. that night.

The Dexter and Brotherhood episodes notched increases of 41% and 47%, respectively, from their seventh installment premiere outings on Nov. 11, according to Showtime officials. Both shows have four more installments before concluding their sophomore seasons.

Elsewhere, the third season finale of Weeds at 10 p.m. on Nov. 19 scored 1.03 million watchers, 18% from its second-season concluder.
