Building on its miniseries legacy, Sci Fi Channel notched several of the highest Nielsen numbers in its history last night with the first installment of Tin Man, its re-imagining of L. Frank Baum’s Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The first of three two-hour installments registered a 4.2 household rating, 3.93 million households and more than 6.3 million total viewings during its 9-11 p.m. premiere window on Dec. 2. The show also attracted 3.8 million adults 25-to-54 watchers and 3.4 million adults 18 to 49, according to Nielsen Media Research, fast national ratings data.
Sci Fi officials said the first night of Tin Man became the network's best by topping the first part of Steven Spielberg Presents Taken on Dec. 2, 2002, which abducted 6.1 million total viewers, 3.91 million households and 3.7 million of the 25-to-54 set. In addition, Tin Man toppled the first part of Frank Herbert’s Dune among adults 18 to 49, as the Dec. 3, 2000 telecast garnered 3.1 million of those viewers.
The second and third parts of Tin Man will debut at 9 p.m. on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, respectively.
