Sci Fi Elevates Storey, Optican

Network Further Bolsters Programming Team, Beaming Up Sanagustin

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 12/21/2007 8:57:00 AM

Sci Fi Channel augmented its original programming unit, promoting two of its executives and adding a new vice president.

The network promoted Erik Storey and Tony Optican to senior vice president of original programming, and announced the hiring of Chris Sanagustin as vice president of development. All three are based in Los Angeles.

Storey joined Sci Fi in 2001 as vice president of programming. During his tenure he has overseen Battlestar Galactica and shepherded several miniseries, including The Triangle, Legend of Earthsea, and Children of Dune. He is currently working on the pilot Warehouse 13, now in pre-production. Prior to Sci Fi, Erik served as vice president, movies and miniseries at NBC Studios.

Since joining Sci Fi in 2003, Optican has had oversight for the development and production of such series as Eureka, Stargate Atlantis and the network’s record-setting miniseries Tin Man. His newest project is the pilot Revolution, currently in pre-production. Before Sci Fi, Optican served as vice president of current programming for Fox Broadcasting Co., where he oversaw in-house development and production of drama and comedy series, including 24 and The X-Files.

Most recently, Sanagustin worked as senior vice president, current programming at The WB Television Network, overseeing drama and comedy series, including Smallville, Charmed, Reba, Grounded for Life, and Pepper Dennis.  Prior to The WB, Sanagustin was vice president, creative affairs for Viacom Productions, where she shepherded such scripted and alternative series as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and Showtime’s The Chris Isaak Show.

“Tony and Erik have been incredibly valuable contributors to Sci Fi’s success story over the past few years,” said executive vice president of original programming Mark Stern in a statement. “Their intelligence, insight, and taste have been instrumental in creating shows that garner both critical acclaim and record-breaking ratings. I am equally delighted to have Chris join the team.  Her experience and expertise in developing quality programming will be a perfect addition to the team.”
