Verizon will soon target more cable TV markets controlled by Cablevision and Time Warner Cable in New York State, after winning franchises for its FiOS TV service in Westchester County and Great Neck.
The telephone company said it won franchises in the Westchester County villages of Sleepy Hollow and Briarcliff Manor and the town of Ossining. Cablevision is the incumbent cable TV operator in Westchester County.
Verizon said it also won franchises from 12 of the 15 villages in the Great Neck/North Shore Consortium, where Time Warner Cable is the incumbent. The villages include are Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Lake Success, Munsey Park, North Hills, Plandome, Plandome Heights, Plandome Manor, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock and Thomaston.

I find it interesting that the MSOs are taking voice customers, which
constitute a higher margin business for the Telcos than for the MSOs,
while telcos (AT&T with 250K, and Verizon with about 1 million) are taking
video customers, which are higher margin customers for the MSOs than
for Telcos. This represents a flattening of margins across the telecom
industry.

I haven't seen any stories lately on how many Verizon phone customers have ported to the cable companies. It would be interesting to compare the win-loss columns.
The corporate reports from Time Warner, Comcast and Cablevision are claiming hundreds of thousdands of phone customers in the NYC area who must have come from Verizon. But cable sub losses to Fios appear negligible in towns that have had availability for quite a while. That would be a more interesting article.
