MTV To Shoot Another Round Of ‘Tequila’

Net Orders 10 More Episodes Of Bisexual Dating Series

Tila Tequila didn’t ring in the new year with her dating show suitor, but she will get a second chance at small-screen romance as MTV green-lighted a sophomore season of her series.

The network has ordered 10 more episodes of A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila from 495 Productions in which the bisexual MySpace.com pin-up queen will once again try to find the right man or woman among a batch of straight guys and lesbians. The rookie season of A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila was MTV's top new series among its target 12-to-34 demographic in 2007, according to network officials.

The news of the new round of Tequila follows her split with film student Bobby Banhart, whom she selected over firefighter Dani Campbell during the first season. “Things didn’t work” out between them, said an MTV spokesman.

The new Tequila episodes are scheduled to air sometime this spring. In all likelihood, the series spin-off, That’s Amore!, featuring first-season fan favorite Domenico Nesci, searching for love among 15 women, will make it to air before its progenitor, said MTV executives. Nesci appeared on Tila Tequila’s New Years Eve Masquerade 2008.

Although there are no current plans for Banhart and/or Campbell to return on the sophomore run of Tequila, she could appear on That's Amore!, said MTV officials.

That’s Amore!
is also being produced by 495 Productions, which signed an overall production services agreement with the company and president Sally Ann Salsano.

“Thanks to the creative talent and vision of Sally Ann Salsano, A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila was one of our big breakout hits for 2007,” said Tony Disanto, executive vice president of series development and programming for MTV in a statement. “We are now officially expanding our relationship with Sally Ann and her team at 495 Productions and look forward to her next slate of projects including, another Shot At Love, That's Amore, and more great, compelling TV for our viewers.”

In addition to working with MTV, Salsano’s reality credits include production on HGTV’s Design Star, Style’s The Big Party Plan-Off and ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

The Dec. 18 season-one Tequila finale poured a 5.9 rating among the aforementioned 12-to-34 set (5 million of those viewers) to become the highest-rated series telecast on MTV since an August 2005 installment of Real World XVI, according to Nielsen Media Research data. With 6.2 million viewers on average, the season concluder was also the second most-watched show on MTV in 2007 behind the 2007 Video Music Awards and the network’s most-watched series telecast among total viewers since the Nov. 26, 2002 installment of The Osbournes.

For its premiere installment runs, Tequila produced a 3.41 average among persons 12 to 34, the second highest-rated MTV series in that demo behind The Hills’s 4.05 in its third campaign. The mark for The Hills, was up 45% from its second season, according to Nielsen data.
