Sen. John McCain (R.- Ariz.) was triumphant Tuesday in the party’s New Hampshire primary, but Fox News Channel was a Nielsen winner with its coverage of the Republican presidential debate last night from South Carolina.
Fox News presentation of the forum earned 3.65 million viewers on average from 9 to 10:35 p.m. on Jan. 10, according to Nielsen Media Research data, including 1.04 million in the 25-to-54 news demographic.
Ahead of the state’s primary on Jan. 19, the Republican debate, which featured former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, former New York mayor Rudy Guiliani, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, and McCain, was Fox News’s most watched of the 2007-08 political season, topping its Sept. 5, 2007 coverage of the GOP forum in New Hampshire.
