The NAACP Image Awards will escape the glitz-less appearance of this year's Golden Globes celebration, for the NAACP has reached an interim agreement with the Writers Guild of America that will alow union workers to script the show.
No writers will picket the ceremony, scheduled Feb. 14 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, so actors and other union members will not have to honor a picket line.
Announcing the interim agreement, NAACP chairman Julian Bond said, "The NAACP stands in solidarity with the Writers Guild in its fight for meaningful collective bargaining and the rights of all workers to make an honest and fair living."
The WGA has also granted a waiver that will allow the NAACP to use TV and motion picture clips in its show.
"Because of the historic role the NAACP has played in struggles like ours, we think this decision is appropriate to jointly achieve our goals," said Patric Verrone, WGA West president.
The program will be broadcast by Fox and honors creative artists of color in TV and film.
