Halle Berry, Mary J. Blige, Alyssa Milano and a host of other women celebrities will appear in several Lifetime-produced public service announcements encouraging women to vote as part of the network’s “Every Woman Counts” election campaign.
The PSAs will feature the celebrities discussing what they would do if they were president, with answers ranging from the serious such as making sure American kids are well-fed and educated to the silly, like a Friday initiative to make sure everyone gets a free pair of shoes.
The “Every Woman Counts” public service campaign is now in its fifth election cycle since launching in 1992
Lifetime said actress/singer Queen Latifah inaugurated the campaign during her recent concert tour by asking women across the country to complete the sentence, “If I Were President, I would ….”
Additional celebrities taping the PSAs include Nikki Blonsky, Andrea Bowen, Yaya DaCosta, Fran Drescher, Jodie Foster, Daisy Fuentes, Chelsea Handler, Rachael Harris, Mary Hart, Angela Kinsey, Patti LaBelle, Ricki Lake, Joanna Levesque, Kelly Lynch, Monet Mazur, Reba McEntire, Mya, Holly Robinson Peete, Elizabeth Peña, Annie Potts, Emmy Rossum, Molly Shannon and Michelle Trachtenberg. The cast -- Catherine Bell, Brigid Brannagh, Wendy Davis, Kim Delaney and Sally Pressman -- of Lifetime’s hit drama Army Wives also taped a PSA.
“We are so grateful to these women who are passionate about our future for lending their time and voice to this campaign, said Meredith Wagner, executive vice president, public affairs, Lifetime Networks, in a statement. “We hope these PSAs will get more women engaged in the political process by voting, speaking up and running for public office.”
