Home Box Office and Disney Channel led a list of 29 cable networks vying for the National Association of Multi-ethnicity in Communications’ Vision Awards, the diversity organization announced today.
HBO garnered 10 nominations for the 14th annual Vision Awards -- which recognizes outstanding achievements in original, multi-ethnic cable programming -- including two each for its original movies Life Support and Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee. Disney garnered five Vision Awards nods for such original shows as Cory In The House and That’s So Raven, while TV One picked up four nominations.
The Vision Awards winners will be announced during a luncheon held in conjunction with the NAMIC’s annual West Coast Creative Summit event.
ABC Family’s police drama Lincoln Heights,; CNN”s news series Special Investigations Unit, and TBS’s family comedy Tyler Perry’s House of Payne earned two nominations each, according to NAMIC.
Overall more than 200 entries were submitted by 29 networks competing for top honors in 15 award categories.
“The Vision Awards exemplifies the best of what the cable television industry produces annually in multi-ethnic and cross-cultural original programming that positively reflects the diverse interest of its viewers,” said NAMIC president Kathy Johnson in a statement.
