Fox Sports Net is bringing a branded regional sports network to Kansas City.
FSN Kansas City will sport games and other programming that were previously part of FSN Midwest.
The new service, whose principal team is the Kansas City Royals, will formally launch at the beginning of the 2008 Major League Baseball season. However, fans will begin to see the FSN Kansas City logo during this week’s Royals caravan and Royals fanfest. The first program produced by the new RSN will reflect some of those aforementioned activities and debut Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
The rebranding in Kansas City continues the trend by FSN to make its regional sports networks more localized. The sports programmer, for instance, launched FSN Utah from FSN Rocky Mountain and FSN Houston from FSN Southwest.
Counting some 2 million subscribers, FSN Kansas City will televise programming geared toward fans in that DMA, as well as in neighboring communities in Missouri and Kansas. In addition to 140 Royals games, the RSN will showcase Big 12 Conference sports, notably football action, including contests involving the University of Missouri, University of Kansas and Kansas State University
FSN Kansas City programming will air on the same channel on which FSN Midwest programming currently airs.
“We’re proud to announce the launch of FSN Kansas City,“ said Jack Donovan, FSN Kansas City general manager and senior vice president, in a statement. “This network will reflect our role as the new exclusive home for Royals baseball, as well as our increased emphasis on localism and creating content that resonates with our Kansas City audience.”
