Shalom TV Expands VOD Presence

Wider On-Demand Rollout Begins On Comcast, Time Warner Cable’s Metro New York Area Systems

By R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 1/30/2008 2:40:00 AM

Jewish-targeted network Shalom TV will get a major boost in distribution through video-on-demand agreements with Comcast and Time Warner Cable.

The network, which offers Jewish films, news and public affairs and children’s programming, will launch in front of Comcast’s national VOD footprint, as well as Time Warner’s New York City and New Jersey systems. Combined those outlets reach some 15 million digital-cable subscribers, according to the networks.

Shalom TV is currently on Comcast systems in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC as a subscription VOD service, but those systems will be offering the service free starting in February.

"Comcast and Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey deserve enormous credit for addressing the needs of the Jewish community," said Mark S. Golub, Shalom TV president and CEO, in a statement. "We're thrilled to be able to provide viewers throughout America with a way to enhance their connections to Jewish life, the State of Israel, and the Jewish tradition."
