Bernard and Doris
(HBO, Saturday, Feb. 9, 8 p.m.)
The Rundown: The odd love story between enigmatic billionaire Doris Duke and Bernard Lafferty, the alcoholic, gay Irish butler who became her servant, friend and heir.
Pros: Who doesn’t enjoy watching pros such as Susan Sarandon (Duke) and Ralph Fiennes (Lafferty)?
Cons: How much of it is true? The production notes this is a “grown-up fairy tale about an imagined relationship” between the famously press-shy subjects.
The Score: Take the producers at their word, and enjoy mining the film for clues as to what made this odd couple appear to work (other than their joint appreciation of the grape).
