DirecTV is taking comedy to court in a new series this spring, Supreme Court ofComedy, according to officials.
Available exclusively to all DirecTV subscribers, the new show, executive-produced by Jon Murray of Bunim/Murray Productions and Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada, will debut in HD March 3 at 10 pm on the satellite provider’s original entertainment channel, The 101.
Taking a new spin on courtroom television, the series will feature real people trying their small claims disputes with America’s truest judges of character -- comedians. Dom Irrera will serve as the court’s resident “chief justice,” and top comedians like Jamie Kennedy, Sinbad, Paul Rodriguez and Tom Arnold will represent plaintiffs and defendants in each case.
Throughout the course of the 10-episode series, judge Irrera will preside over real-life disputes ranging from stolen sex tapes and scorned lovers, to Roller Derby brawls and cross-dressing mishaps.
Staying true to courtroom TV format, the series also includes audience interaction, where observers will be invited to comment on each case. Each episode will also feature “quickie cases” in which audience members with disputes can bring their issues in front Irrera for fast resolutions. All decisions by Irrera are final and case winners will be awarded according to his verdict.
