Hernandez Suits Up For SNY’s Squad

Analyst Returns To Regional Sports Net For 110 New York Mets Games

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 2/11/2008 5:05:00 PM

Keith Hernandez is back on SNY’s roster.

The cable TV home to the New York Mets, SNY signed Hernandez, the former slick-fielding Major League first baseman and member of the Amazin’s 1986 World Series championship squad, to a multiyear contract extension, terms of which were not disclosed.

Under the deal, Hernandez will make more than 110 broadcast booth appearances in 2008, as well as work on SNY’s pre- and post-game shows. He will also contribute to the regional sports network’s Web site, www.sny.tv.

Hernandez, who appeared on a pair of Seinfeld episodes, was slated to join Kevin BurkharMexdt on SNY’s Mets Hot Stove show on Feb. 11.

“Keith is one of the elite analysts in baseball, and we’re excited to continue our relationship with him,” said Curt Gowdy, Jr., senior vice president of production and executive producer, in a statement. “His candid analysis and unique perspective of the game make him one of the most entertaining broadcasters in all of sports. He is the perfect complement to Gary [Cohen] and Ron [Darling] -- forming baseball’s top broadcast booth.”

Noted Hernandez: “I am thrilled to be coming back to SNY. It’s going to be an exciting season to cover the Mets with Gary and Ronnie  – especially with the addition of [ace left-hand pitcher] Johan Santana [in a trade with the Minnesota Twins] and the final season at Shea Stadium, where I have so many fond memories. I’m looking forward to calling Mets games on SNY for many years to come.”
