Falco Has Pilot Prescription For Showtime
‘Sopranos’ Star To Play New York City Nurse In Dark Comedy

Edie Falco has taken another job in premium television, this time filming a comedic pilot for Showtime.
The actress, who a trio of Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Carmela, the wife of a New Jersey mob boss on HBO's The Sopranos, will star in a half-hour dark comedy. The single-camera show will feature Falco as a strong-willed New York City nurse juggling her challenged personal life with her professional duties, of which she is largely in control.
Written by Evan Dunsky, the pilot -- a co-production of Showtime and Lionsgate Television, which produces the network's comedy Weeds -- will go into pre-production immediately, with shooting taking place in New York.
Should Showtime green-light series production, the show could air in 2009.
Linda Wallem (The Comeback, That ‘70’s Show) and Liz Brixius are the executive producers, show runners and writers. Richie Jackson will serve as co-executive producer. Caryn Mandabach is also executive producer.
“To be bringing Edie Falco to Showtime is both a privilege and an honor,” said Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt in a statement. “She sits firmly in the pantheon of the great actresses of our day, and to have found a show and a great role that meets her standards after six seasons of The Sopranos is our distinct pleasure and great fortune. Bada bing is all I can think of to say!”
