By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 3/7/2008 3:20:00 AM EST

The vicarious thought of reuniting with their old school mates resonated with TV Land viewers Wednesday night.

The baby-boomer-targeted service registered triple-digit demo growth with the premiere of High School Reunion, which brought alumni from JJ Pearce High in Texas together for the first time in more than 20 years to amultimillion dollar estate in Maui.

High School Reunion on March 5 garnered a 0.4 average rating against adults 25 to 54, translating into 426,000 of those watchers for respective gains of 105% and 113% in the 10 p.m. time slot over last year, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The network averaged 735,000 total viewers, up 62% over the year-earlier period, with a median viewer age of 46.

Among the network’s core adults 50-to-54 audience, the High School Reunion premiere improved 62% to a 0.5 rating and 69% to 260,000 viewers, said TV Land officials.

“The success of High School Reunion is a testament to the fact that you can create programming for people in their 40s and 50s,” said TV Land president Larry Jones in a statement. “Viewers who first came to TV Land for classic TV are now embracing contemporary programming alongside their favorite hits. Last night’s premiere is evidence that there is room for originals on TV Land.”

The six-episode series is executive-produced by Mike Fleiss and Lisa Levenson (The Bachelor).
