TLC Looks To Make Things Simple

Network Inks Multimedia Deal With Real Simple, Yielding Summer Series

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 3/7/2008 3:26:00 AM

TLC is bonding with women’s organizing brand and magazine Real Simple to develop multimedia content, including a TV series this summer.

The Discovery service has ordered 15 episodes of a primetime series that will debut in August. Like all of the other platforms the parties will explore, the show will target working women happy with their careers and personal lives, but looking to make things a little easier.

Real Simple brought on Andy Friendly (founding producer, Entertainment Tonight and president of programming and production, King World) and Greenberg Glusker entertainment department chair David Stanley to help shepherd the deal with TLC. Both will continue to work as consultants on the show, which is expected to name an executive producer and host in the months ahead.

“This collaboration is a wonderful fit that speaks directly to our viewers,” said TLC president Angela Shapiro-Mathes in a statement. “Our brands are a perfect psychographic match and, together, TLC and Real Simple will also bring our advertising partners an unmatched opportunity to connect with our shared audience.”
