AT&T Turned The Channel On Music Choice

After Dropping Service In November, U-Verse TV Now Proffers MTVN’s Urge Radio Instead

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 3/7/2008 1:49:00 AM MT

AT&T confirmed that it stopped offering Music Choice’s suite of 50-plus channels to U-verse TV customers back in November, less than a year after the two companies announced their distribution deal.

“We don't carry the Music Choice channels any longer,” AT&T spokeswoman Jenny Parker said. “Our music channels are provided by [MTV Networks’] Urge.”

Music Choice did not respond to requests for comment.

Earlier this week, Music Choice filed a federal lawsuit against Viacom and MTV Networks, alleging that MTV’s Urge Radio service infringes two patents issued to Music Choice last year. Music Choice is seeking unspecified monetary damages and an injunction preventing Viacom and MTVN from using the patents in question.

In addition to U-Verse, Urge Radio, which provides 48-themed music channels, is carried by Verizon's FiOS TV.

Founded in 1987, Music Choice is now jointly owned by Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, Microsoft, Motorola, Sony Corp. of America and EMI Music.Video distributors that currently carry Music Choice include Comcast, Cox, Time Warner, Cablevision Systems and Verizon.
