Microsoft Moves On Streaming Video

Las VegasMicrosoft signed a deal with Move Networks to incorporate Move's video-streaming technology into the next version of its Silverlight multimedia platform. Microsoft Silverlight competes with Adobe Systems' Flash Player and related tools for creating online video players.

The Move software, which delivers video in discrete files chunks for smoother playback, is integrated into Silverlight 2.0, which Microsoft released in beta last week. The companies did not disclose terms of the deal, although Move Networks CEO John Edwards noted the agreement is not exclusive.

Move Networks' Internet video player is used by ABC, Discovery Communications, ESPN360.com, The CW, Fox and other media companies.

Motorola OKs Navic's Interactive-TV Platform

Waltham, Mass.Navic Networks completed Motorola's Acadia application integration and test validation process for its advanced advertising and interactive television solutions to run on the Motorola/TV Guide iGuide platform.

According to Navic, that more than doubles its potential market by expanding it to include Motorola digital set-top boxes. Navic ITV applications are also available on platforms including Scientific Atlanta's SARA, Aptiv's Passport, Time Warner Cable's Mystro Digital Navigator (MDN), CableLabs' Tru2way and eBIF, and TVWorks.

Entriq Buys Web-Video Workflow Provider

Carlsbad, Calif.Entriq, which sells digital rights management solutions for broadband media, acquired DayPort, a Mankato, Minn.-based provider of video content-management, workflow and syndication software.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

DayPort CEO Cory Factor will join Entriq as chief technology officer.

Entriq chief operating officer Guy Tennant said DayPort's approximately 35 employees will bring Entriq to about 180 worldwide.

Tennant said the DayPort acquisition will position Entriq better against other providers of video-management systems, such as Comcast's thePlatform, Brightcove and Maven Networks (which was recently acquired by Yahoo!).
