Billy Crystal didn’t fare too well at the plate yesterday, but his pinstripe appearance lifted Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network to an all-time exhibition season ratings mark.
The comedian and die-hard New York Yankees fans fanned in his only at-bat, leading off the Bronx Bombers’ battle with Pittsburgh’s Bucs on March 13. YES’s coverage of Yankees-Pirates drew a 1.1 household rating in the New York DMA, equating to 89,000 total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The telecast peaked at 1.7 mark from 2:45- 3 p.m., according to YES officials.
The previous pre-season record-holder on YES: the Yanks-Philadelphia Phillies game on March 2, 2006, which scored a 0.86 household rating and 70,000 viewers on averages, said the network.
