Kids Choose Nick’s Awards Show

Viewership For Network’s Annual Event Surges 21%

By R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 4/1/2008 9:43:00 AM

Nickelodeon’s March 31 Kids Choice Awards slimed its way to record viewership.

This year’s version of the live annual awards show, hosted by actor Jack Black and featuring appearances by actor Harrison Ford and teen idol Miley Cyrus, drew 7.4 million viewers, topping last year’s record 6.1 million viewers, according to Nick executives.

This show also topped last year’s event,

which was hosted by Justin Timberlake, among kids 2-11 (3.8 million to last year’s 3.4 million viewers).

On the online front, the show generated a record 89.3 million votes cast via Nick.com, Nicktropolis and through Nick’s mobile Web site. That votes were more than double last year’s figure, according to the network.

The event also boosted Nick.com to its highest trafficked day ever, with 1.7 million unique visitors, 40 minutes spent on the site per visitor for the day, and more than 27.1 million page views, according to the network.

Nick’s new dance series Dance On Sunset lost nearly half of the Kids Choice Awards audience but still debuted with a respectable audience of 3.6 million viewers. The 12-episode series, hosted by MTV TRL personality Quddus Philippe, will feature free-style dance competitions and audience dance instruction.
