Spike Acquires ‘Married…With Children’ Catalog

Deal Includes Digital, Mobile Rights To One-Time FOX Hit

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 4/7/2008 4:14:00 AM

Spike TV Monday acquired the rights to all 259 episodes of the one-time FOX comedy series Married…With Children and will be delivering multiple episodes each week on its Web site.

In addition, Spike will also serve up more than 40 six-minute “webisodes” for distribution either on its Web site or through various mobile outlets. Spike TV officials said they plan to strip the series to run in mornings, afternoons and late at night.

“Al Bundy must be smiling somewhere right now knowing he will have a home on the network made for regular guys like him,” John Griffin, vice president of programming, Spike TV, said in a statement. “Married …With Children” will fit in nicely with our strong lineup of such popular series for guys as “Spike’s Most Amazing Videos” and “Disorderly Conduct,” and “Whacked Out Sports.”

Married…With Children premiered on FOX in 1987. The sitcom followed the exploits of Al Bundy and his “not so typical nuclear family” living in the suburbs of Chicago.
