Lifetime Rolls Out Lifetime HD; AT&T, Verizon To Offer It

Network's Second HD Channel Joins Lifetime Movie Network HD

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 4/16/2008 6:46:00 AM

Lifetime Networks has launched its second HDTV service, Lifetime Television HD, joining sister channel Lifetime Movie Network HD, which bowed last year, officials said Wednesday.

Lifetime has also closed carriage deals with AT&T U-verse TV and Verizon FiOS TV to carry the new HDTV service. The two telcos have carried Lifetime Movie Network HD on their video services since 2007.

“We’re thrilled to include Lifetime Television HD on AT&T U-verse TV as part of our extensive HD lineup,” Dan York, AT&T U-verse TV’s head of programming and content, said in a prepared statement. “We know it’s important to offer our U-verse customers a wide variety of HD content that speaks to their interests, and Lifetime’s quality programming will reach an important audience.”

Lifetime HD features programming from the women’s network, including the hit drama Army Wives and original movies such as the upcoming The Tenth Circle.

“Our research shows that 85% of women 18-54 said they were interested in watching movies in high-definition, far exceeding any other genre,” Lori Conkling, Lifetime’s executive vice president of distribution, said in a prepared statement. “A recent survey also showed that nearly half of women 18-54 want to add either Lifetime or Lifetime Movie Network to their high-definition package.

In launching Lifetime Television HD, together with Lifetime Movie Network HD, we are giving women what they want. With these agreements, we’re delighted that AT&T and Verizon will carry all of our networks.”

The Lifetime Networks survey also showed that about 90% of women are involved in the purchase of HD TVs.

“The popularity of high-definition TV continues to grow, and Verizon’s FiOS TV subscribers are looking for high-quality HD programming,” Terry Denson, vice president of TV content and programming for FiOS, said in a prepared statement.  “The Lifetime Television HD channel will be a great addition to our expanding HD channel lineup.”
