Discovery Channel’s Emmy-nominated Deadliest Catch returned Tuesday with its highest audience delivery of any season premiere ever, officials said Wednesday.

Deadliest CatchThe April 15 debuts at 9  p.m. and 10 p.m. garnered 2.50 and 2.59 household ratings and 3.39 million and 3.53 million viewers, respectively. The series airs every Tuesday night at 9 p.m.

Deadliest Catch episodes 'Striking Out' and 'Get'em Back Safe' also ranked as the No. 1 and No. 2  primetime cable programs for the night among households, persons 25 to 54, men 25 to 54 and men 18 to 49 ratings, according to Discovery Channel officials

From creator-producer Thom Beers

The brave men endure subzero Arctic weather, 60-mph winds and turbulent seas with waves the size of four-story buildings, all on three to four hours of sleep each night — if they’re lucky.  To add to the weather nightmare, a thousand gallons of water crashes onto the deck every 30 seconds, freezing as it hits the boat.  To prevent the boat from becoming too top-heavy and capsizing at sea, deckhands are continuously forced to stop fishing and spend hours clearing the ice with sledgehammers.

, Deadliest Catch, which is being broadcast in high-definition for the first time this season, follows the now legendary captains and crews of five crab-fishing vessels on the Bering Sea doing one of the deadliest — and most lucrative — jobs in the world.
