By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 5/9/2008 9:23:00 AM

Wilmington, N.C., mayor Bill Saffo will be on C-SPAN’s show The Communicators Saturday evening to talk about his city being the test market for the transition to digital television.

The Federal Communications Commission announced this week that Wilmington will be the nation's first market to switch from analog to digital broadcasting, on Sept. 8, 2008, months ahead of the February 2009 nationwide transition.

Also on the program,Cynthia Brumfield, president of Emerging Media Dynamics, will discuss the announcement this week of a venture between Sprint and Clearwire (plus the consortium of Comcast, Time Warner, BrightHouse Networks, Google and Intel) to launch a wireless broadband service using WiMax technology.

She will discuss the regulatory, financial and technological aspects and how other wireless companies are reacting to the announcement.

The Communicators airs on C-SPAN on Saturday at 6:30 P.M. ET and on C-SPAN 2 on Monday, May 12, at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET. Past interviews are available on the C-SPAN Web site.
