Web Video Viewing Up 64% In March, Led by YouTube

Almost Three-Quarters Of U.S. Internet Audience Downloaded Video Last Month

Internet users in the U.S. watched 11.5 billion online videos in March, a 64% gain from one year earlier, led by Google’s YouTube with more than 4.3 billion views in the month, according to research firm comScore.

The videos viewed in the month, up 13% from February, came from almost 139 million users, or 73.7% of the total U.S. Internet audience, comScore estimates.

The average online video viewer watched 235 minutes of video, up 14% from an average 206 minutes in February. The average online video clips duration was 2.8 minutes, compared with 2.7 minutes in February.

ComScore’s Video Metrix measures both streaming and progressive-download video.

The Top 10 U.S. sites by number of videos viewed in March were:

Google sites       4.358 billion

Fox Interactive Media  477.6 million

Yahoo! sites        328.1 million

Viacom Digital     249.3 million

Microsoft sites    245.5 million

Time Warner (excl. AOL)      159.0 million

Disney Online     108.1 million

ABC.com   100.1 million

AOL  100.0 million

ESPN         89.8 million
