NEW ORLEANS--Tennis legend Martina Navratilova will put some of her artistic talents on display at the Big Easy’s City Park Sunday.
Navratilova, who serves as Tennis Channel’s primary commentator during the network’s coverage of the sport’s Grand Slam events, will create two tennis-themed paintings at City Park that will be auctioned for the benefit of New Orleans’ Youth Tennis Program at the facility. City Park is being rebuilt in the wake of Hurricane Katrina’s destruction.
The Grand Slam champion, who is expected to be accompanied by 200 kids, will hit tennis balls into a pre-designed canvas. The event will mark the first time Navratilova, who will be providing analysis from Paris, beginning May 25 on Tennis Channel’s coverage of the French Open, will showcase her art in the U.S.
On Monday, Tennis Channel, ESPN and the United States Tennis Association announced a multiyear deal that will make the networks the cable carriers for the U.S. Open tennis championships, beginning with the 2009 Grand Slam event.
