Suddenlink Will Expand Call Center In West Virginia

$3.5 Million Addition Keeps Broadband Provider's Call Center In Mountain State

By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 6/12/2008 11:43:00 AM EDT

Suddenlink said Thursday it has outgrown its Parkersburg, W.Va., call center and will build a new, bigger regional facility in that area at an expected cost of $3.5 million.

The cable provider said that the new 18,000-square-foot facility would likely have 221 full-time employees, 33 more than the current roster of 188. The call center will serve Suddenlink’s 240,000 video, Internet and phone customers in a five-state area centered in West Virginia.

“These are good paying jobs with full benefits,” Suddenlink’s Atlantic Regional VP Dave Bach said in a release. “We certainly had many options to build this facility in other parts of the state, or other states for that matter. However, Wood County is the right fit for many reasons, but first and foremost is the exceptional work force already in place.”

“We are pleased that Suddenlink has chosen to stay, and grow, in West Virginia,” Gov. Joe Manchin said in the release. “It is a positive reflection on the dedication and productive work ethic of our work force.”

The facility will be one of five call centers Suddenlink operates. It’s the largest cable broadband company in the state and provides video, high-speed Internet and phone service throughout most of its West Virginia footprint. Suddenlink has 1.3 million customers overall.

Also in the release, U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat, said: “Suddenlink’s growth is great news for the Parkersburg area, and the company made a wise choice to continue to invest in West Virginia’s work force. As so many companies have come to appreciate, West Virginia workers are unmatched in productivity and dedicated customer service.”

Wood County Commission president Bob Tebay said in the release, “The commission certainly appreciates having Suddenlink as a significant employer and values their long-term commitment to the area.”
