Olyphant Joins FX’s ‘Damages’

Former ‘Deadwood’ Star Signs On For Series’ Second Season

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 6/25/2008 11:14:00 AM

FX Wednesday confirmed that Timothy Olyphant, who starred as “Seth Bullock” on the now-canceled and highly acclaimed HBO series Deadwood, will join the ensemble cast of the Damages, the network’s Golden Globe-winning legal drama series.

Last week, the network announced that Academy Award-winner William Hurt would also join the Damages cast for its upcoming second season, scheduled to return to the air sometime in early 2009.

FX officials said Olyphant’s character will become tangled in the life of Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) as she deals with both her recent personal loss and the escalating conflict with her boss Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) when the firm takes a new client (William Hurt).

“We've been huge fans of Tim's all the way back to his New York theater days,” Damages co-creators and executive producers Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman said in a statement. “His magnetic combination of humor, charm and menace make him a perfect fit for our show. And we're thrilled to get the chance to write for him.”

Production of the 13-episode second season began Tuesday in New York. Damages is produced by Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and FX Productions.

The series received the most Golden Globe nominations of any series on television and Glenn Close earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – TV Series Drama. It also recently received three 2008 Television Critics Association Awards nominations.
