The Screen Actors Guild has now delayed until Thursday its response to the “last, best” contract offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The delay will allow the union to see whether the other actors' union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, approves the contract its leadership negotiated with the AMPTP. Factions within SAG are trying to convince AFTRA members, some of whom are also SAG members, to vote down the contract. That faction has argued that SAG is attempting to negotiate a contract which will attach more revenue streams—such as product placement—for its members.
A failed or even a marginally approved contract might give more negotiating muscle to SAG.
SAG will reportedly respond to the AMPTP's last offer on Thursday at 2 p.m. PT.
