Nick at Nite has greenlit Glenn Martin DDS., the first TV series from Michael Eisner’s Tornante Animation.
Designed by Eric Fogel, the creative force behind MTV’s Celebrity Deathwatch, the show follows the Martins in their toothbrush-toped dental mobile as they leave suburbia behind in the rear-view mirror and embark on a cross-country adventure.
For Nick at Nite, which has ordered 20 episodes of Glenn Martin DDS., the series pushes the network in a new direction. The addition of an original show complements its longstanding off-network series acquisition strategy that is currently producing strong ratings with Family Matters, Home Improvement and George Lopez in particular. Next year, it’s adding Everybody Hates Chris to its lineup.
Eisner founded Tornante in 2005, after leaving as chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Co. Long before that, at ABC, he helped take the network to number one with shows such as Roots, Happy Days and Barney Miller.
