LG Links To Netflix Via Net-Powered Blu-Ray Player
Netflix Subs Would Gain Access to HD Fare, 12,000 Titles Over Internet

LG Electronics this fall plans to debut a Blu-ray DVD player that includes the ability to stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix, directly to subscribers’ TV.
LG’s BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will play high-definition Blu-ray discs, “upconvert” standard DVDs to 1080p resolution and allow Netflix subscribers to watch some 12,000 titles streamed over the Internet. Pricing for the unit has been reported to be $400 to $450.
The two companies announced their partnership in January, when Netflix disclosed that it was discontinuing efforts to develop its own Internet-connected set-top.
The first Netflix-enabled broadband set-top, from specialty device maker Roku, went on sale in May for $99.
Netflix members use the Netflix Web site to add movies and TV episodes to a queue that are displayed through the LG player. Once selected, movies will begin playing in as little as 30 seconds, according to LG.
The LG Blu-ray player will also include a feature, BD Live, to download additional content over a broadband connection, such as previews or special content.
