Discovery Nets 29 Million Viewers During ‘Shark Week’

Online Traffic Surges to Record Levels

Discovery Channel Tuesday said its annual "Shark Week" programming drew more than 29.1 million viewers between July 27 and Aug. 2, up from 27.2 million viewers in 2007.

The 21st annual edition of "Shark Week" included six premiere shark programs—including two, Mythbusters: Shark Special and Dirty Jobs: Greenland Shark Quest, that earned a place on the list of the Top 10-rated ‘Shark Week’ programs of all time.

Those two shows were watched by 6.2 million and 3.9 million unique viewers, respectively, according Nielsen Media Research.

Online, "Shark Week" content attracted more than 11.5 million page views and 1 million total visits from July 1 to Aug. 2, up 20% from the same time period last year. From Jul7 27 through Aug. 2, “Shark Week” content drew a record 7.5 million weekly page views and more than 600,000 total visits.
