IFC Gets In Tune With Pitchfork Media

Network Will Add Short Content From Indie Music Site Starting Aug. 24

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 8/11/2008 5:36:00 AM

IFC signed a deal to be the exclusive TV partner for Pitchfork Media, and will air 10 interstitial shows per week from Pitchfork.tv series such as Juan’s Basement, Don’t Look Down and Daytripping, starting Aug. 24.

The block will be called "Pitchfork Airwaves on IFC."

The Rainbow Media programmer also will create a destination at IFC.com that includes Pitchfork Media video and editorial content.

Pitchfork claims to attract 1.7 million unique visitors per month and 260,000 visits per day, and a readership second only to Rolling Stone magazine, and larger than those of print publications such as Blender, Spin and Vibe.

In April 2008, Pitchfork launched Pitchfork.tv, an independent-music focused online music video channel. In its first month, it featured exclusive performances by Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, and No Age, racking up more than 2.5 million video plays.

Juan’s Basement features performances and interviews from a Brooklyn basement; Don’t Look Down uses New York City rooftops as backdrops for exclusive sets from the likes of Brooklyn-based bar-rockers The Hold Steady and Portland power-pop trio The Thermals; and Daytripping features outings such as touring Austin, Texas, shooting ranges with L.A. noise-punks Health and boarding the Coney Island Cyclone with Philly-based party-starter Girl Talk.
