Verizon Communications Inc. is stepping up its customer-acquisition promotion, now offering new subscribers a year's free use of a high-definition digital video recorder plus a free month of HBO and Cinemax for new customers.
The offer is valid until Oct. 4. In place of the HD DVR, a consumer could instead pick an HD home media DVR, which uses one DVR to record programs that can then be viewed on up to six other televisions in the home. This model also allows viewing of three recorded programs simultaneously on three sets. This hardware is bundled with a media manager, a feature that lets users view photos or play music stored in their home PC.
“High-def is hot, and FiOS TV is delivered over the network that's build for HD,” said Shawn Strickland, vice president of video solutions for Verizon. “Our new offer combines the excitement of premium movies with the convenience and advanced technology of our high-def DVRs.”
The offer is available to both new customers and customers who upgrade to a bundled package from Verizon. New customers could save between $200 and $260 for the year, depending on which free hardware they take, according to the company.
The offer is designed to attract consumers as the buzz builds around the fall broadcast season.
